Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz 2023

Wirra Wirra Catapult Shiraz is a generous, fruit-forward McLaren Vale red made from certified organic Shiraz grapes. The 2023 vintage brings ripe blueberry, raspberry and mulberry flavours alongside warming baking spices, cocoa and a touch of liquorice. Full-bodied yet vibrant, it delivers plenty of dark fruit richness, balanced by fresh acidity and fine, mouth-coating tannins. The name pays tribute to legendary Wirra Wirra winemaker Greg Trott, who dreamed of building a medieval catapult to launch bottles of wine at neighbouring wineries. That wonderfully eccentric idea eventually became a reality, with a working trebuchet now standing on the winery lawns. A fantastic match for grilled lamb, slow-cooked beef or a weekend barbecue.

Sourced from certified organic vineyards across McLaren Vale, the 2023 Catapult Shiraz combines fruit from several subregions, including Seaview, McLaren Flat, Blewitt Springs and The Range. Matured in a combination of French and American oak, with approximately 20% new oak, it offers fresh plum and raspberry aromas layered with cinnamon, cocoa, clove and nutmeg. The palate is generous and richly fruited, with smooth, fine tannins and a persistent, spicy finish.
