Vivanco Crianza Rioja 2019

Vivanco Crianza Rioja is a polished, fruit-forward Rioja with plenty of freshness alongside its oak-aged savoury character. Tempranillo leads the way with ripe red berries and cherry, joined by liquorice, gentle spice, toast and a touch of smoke. The palate is smooth and balanced, with fine tannins and enough acidity to keep everything lively rather than heavy. Vivanco is based in Briones in Rioja Alta, where the family combines traditional Rioja ageing with a modern approach to winemaking. A very handy red for the dinner table, particularly with roast lamb, grilled meats, tapas or a plate of good charcuterie.

What the winery says:

The 2019 is a blend of 95% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano and 2% Maturana Tinta. Following fermentation and malolactic fermentation in small French oak vats, the wine was matured for 16 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by further bottle ageing before release. It shows ripe red fruit with spice, liquorice, toasted and smoky notes, with a fresh, rounded and persistent palate. Alcohol is 13.5%.
