Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah 2024
Trinity Hill Gimblett Gravels Syrah brings together everything we love about Hawke's Bay Syrah, with beautifully perfumed dark fruit, savoury spice, and plenty of character. Grown in the celebrated Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district, this elegant red offers blackcurrant, dark cherry, raspberry, violet, and peppery notes, backed by firm tannins and refreshing acidity. Trinity Hill has long championed Syrah in this distinctive corner of Hawke's Bay, and the 2024 vintage shows why. Concentrated yet refined, with a lovely balance of fruit and savoury complexity, it's a brilliant match for slow-roasted lamb, grilled steak, or venison. Enjoy it with a hearty meal or give it a few years in the cellar to develop further.
What the winery says:
Following fermentation, selected parcels of Syrah were matured in large 5,400-litre French oak ovals for 18 to 20 months, allowing the individual vineyard characteristics to shine while preserving the fruit's purity and freshness. The final blend was assembled in November 2025 and bottled in February 2026 with minimal fining and filtration. The wine displays fragrant aromas of ripe black fruits, savoury spice, liquorice, and Provençal herbs. The palate is concentrated, silky, and succulent, with a lingering spicy finish. It has excellent potential to develop additional complexity with cellaring.
What the experts say:
Cameron Douglas MS, 95/100, Outstanding (2024)
“A vibrant deeply coloured appearance with a core of dark purple, dark red and pink rim. Aromas of spiced and toasted black fruits of currant and black cherry, a fine layer of forest herbs and violet. A bouquet with concentration and intrigue. On the palate a dry wine with core flavours of black currant and dark wild raspberry, spices and dried herb, gravels and stone with a saline quality. Tannins are firm and acidity sets in place the backbone of this expression. A delicious wine needing cellar time with best drinking from late 2028 through 2034+.”
David Walker Bell, WineFolio, 92/100 (2024)
“A Syrah from a well-regarded producer, made from equally lauded source”
