Sheild Pinot Meunier Rose 2023

SHEiLD Pinot Meunier Rosé is a distinctive Nelson rosé made entirely from a variety more commonly found in Champagne blends. Pale, aromatic and lightly textured, it combines ripe fruit with juicy acidity and a subtle saline edge, finishing clean and dry despite a gentle touch of residual sweetness. Pinot Meunier gives it a little more depth and personality than a simple summer rosé, while the modest alcohol keeps the wine fresh and easy to enjoy. Serve well chilled as an aperitif, or pair it with fresh seafood, antipasti, summer salads and relaxed outdoor lunches.

What the winery says:

Pale Provençal pink in colour, the wine shows floral and melon aromas, with a discreet touch of residual sugar accentuating the fruit. Juicy citrus acidity and a mineral, saline note lead into a long, dry finish. The wine is made from 100% Pinot Meunier grown on 11-year-old vines at the Wai-iti Vineyard, near the confluence of the Waimea and Wai-iti rivers. The flat alluvial soils combine gravel with a layer of silt loam. Harvested in the cool of the morning on 15 March 2023, the fruit was machine picked, crushed and pressed without additional skin contact. The juice was cold settled before a cool fermentation in stainless steel with a selected rosé yeast. Fermentation was chilled to retain freshness and 7 g/L of residual sugar.
