Peter Lehmann Wildcard Shiraz 2023

Peter Lehmann Wildcard Shiraz is a generous Barossa Valley Shiraz packed with ripe blackberry, plum and raspberry jam, backed by baking spice and dark cocoa. Full-bodied and smooth, it has a velvety texture, soft tannins and a long finish where spice and dark chocolate hang around nicely. The 2023 comes entirely from the Barossa Valley and spends 15 months in seasoned French and American oak, adding shape without getting in the fruit's way. A very easy red to put on the table with chargrilled meats, Moroccan-spiced lamb or a hearty beef dish.

What the winery says:

The 2023 vintage followed warm, sunny flowering and fruit set, then cooler weather and above-average rainfall through spring and summer, which encouraged balanced vine growth and slow, even ripening. Fruit was harvested during the cooler morning hours and crushed into stainless steel fermenters for a 7 to 10 day fermentation. After pressing, the wine matured for 15 months in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.
