Novum Quarters Vineyard Pinot Noir is from a close-planted site in Marlborough's Brancott Valley; an elegant, finely structured Pinot Noir built around detail rather than sheer weight. Red cherry, cranberry and pomegranate mingle with florals, savoury herbs, spice, warm cedar and a touch of dark chocolate, all carried by precise acidity and fine tannins. The 2024 comes entirely from Novum's Quarters Vineyard, where mature vines grow on heavy clay loam in the Southern Valleys. Layered, poised and quietly complex, it is a compelling choice for Pinot drinkers who favour fragrance and texture. Try it with duck, roast mushrooms or herb-crusted lamb.

What the winery says:

The 2024 is 100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested from the Quarters Vineyard in the Brancott Valley. The close-planted vines were 27 years old at harvest and grow on heavy clay loam soils, with the vineyard managed using a regenerative agriculture mindset focused on vine and soil health. The wine included 15% whole bunches and spent around five days on skins before wild yeast fermentation, followed by more than 35 days on skins. It was basket pressed and matured for 12 months in French oak barriques, 20% new. Novum describes a poised, elegant and layered wine with red berry fruit, florals, herbs, balanced acidity and a soft, lingering finish. Cellaring guidance is 6-9 years.

What the experts say:

Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 96 Points (2024)
“With an abundance of silky red fruits, baking spices, attractive tannins on the mid~palate and balance throughout, this wine comes highly recommended.”

Shanteh Wale, Halliday Wine Companion, 96 Points (2024)
“A considered wine with balance and articulate detail of dark cherries, pomegranate and raspberry leaf.”
