GOLD MEDAL Rosé Masters (2021)
90/100 James Suckling (2021)
Marques De Caceres Rosado brings a distinctly Rioja take on dry rosé, blending Tempranillo with a splash of Garnacha for colour, flavour and lively character. Pale coral in the glass, it opens with delicate violet and carnation notes, followed by red berries and a subtle touch of aniseed. The palate is fresh, juicy and neatly structured, with moderate acidity and a smooth, lingering finish. A versatile bottle for tapas, seafood paella, grilled salmon or a sunny afternoon that could use a little Spanish flair.
What the winery says:
The 2021 is made from 96% Tempranillo and 4% Garnacha grown mainly on the cooler slopes of Cenicero and in Rioja Alavesa, with the Garnacha sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Cenicero. The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified separately. After 8 to 10 hours of skin contact, the juice was gently drawn off and fermented in stainless steel at 16 to 18°C. Cold stabilisation prevented malolactic fermentation, preserving the wine's natural acidity and freshness. It received no oak ageing and was bottled shortly after harvest.
What the experts say:
Mike DeSimone, Wine Enthusiast, 88 Points (2021)
“This pale-pink wine has a bouquet of apricot, pomegranate and nutmeg. Flavors of mango, strawberry and green apple fade into a floral-strewn finish.”
Melissa Jeanette Markert and Food & Wine Editors, Food & Wine (2021)
“Violets and a hint of anise underscore this crisp, red-fruit forward rosé.”
