Marchesi di Barolo Michet Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC is a bright, fragrant Piedmont Nebbiolo with raspberry, violet and a gentle touch of vanilla leading into a broad, harmonious palate. The tannins are polished and measured rather than stern, giving this 2023 an approachable shape while keeping the savoury grip Nebbiolo lovers look for. Michet takes its name from a Nebbiolo selection with small, loose bunches, while the area's limestone, clay, quartz-rich sand and silt help bring together structure and aromatic lift. A smart choice when you want classic Nebbiolo character without the heft of Barolo. Excellent with rich pasta sauces, roast or braised meats, salumi and aged cheeses.
What the winery says:
Marchesi di Barolo makes Michet from 100% Nebbiolo grown on hills with clay and limestone soils alongside areas rich in quartz sand and silt. The Michet selection is characterised by small, sparse bunches and contributes colour and extract. The winery describes the wine as ruby tending towards garnet, with raspberry, violet and vanilla aromas, a broad and balanced palate, graceful tannins and a delicate woody note. Recommended pairings include hearty first courses, roasted or stewed meats, cured meats and mature cheeses.
What the experts say:
Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast, 90 points (2023 Vintage)
“That lifted floral opening is the first thing and it is genuinely pretty, the kind of nose that sets a tone and sticks to it.”
