93/100 Cameron Douglas (2024)

Luna Estate Sauvignon Blanc is a beautifully expressive Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc that offers a refreshing change from the classic Marlborough style. The 2024 vintage brings together vibrant green mango, ripe pineapple and zesty lime, complemented by delicate apple blossom, fresh herbs and a distinctive flinty minerality. The palate is lively yet wonderfully textured, with crisp citrus acidity, subtle tropical fruit richness and a clean, dry finish. A combination of stainless steel and seasoned French oak fermentation adds depth and softness without overpowering the wine's fresh, aromatic character. Elegant, bright and full of personality, it's an excellent match for fresh seafood, goats cheese, grilled fish or a leisurely afternoon in the sun.

What the winery says:

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc was produced from fruit grown on the clay and limestone soils of Luna Estate's Blue Rock Vineyard in Martinborough. Following harvest, the grapes were destemmed and gently macerated on their skins to extract flavour, texture and ripe phenolics before pressing. Fermentation took place in a combination of seasoned French oak barrels and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with the wine matured for eight months before bottling. Despite spring frosts and challenging flowering conditions, a hot, dry summer helped the small crop develop concentrated flavours. The resulting wine displays fresh green mango, apple blossom, pineapple and flinty mineral notes, with zesty lime acidity, a soft texture and a dry, refreshing finish.

What the experts say:

Cameron Douglas MS, 93/100 (2024)
“A delicious wine from start to finish with a fragrant, urgent bouquet of cape gooseberry, bell-pepper and grapefruit, golden kiwifruit and apple, mineral and a light saline quality. ON the palate the flavours reflect the bouquet plus citrus peel and dried herb, there’s a backbone of acidity fusing the flavours together adding a crispness and length. Well made with best drinking from 2025 through 2028..”
