GOLD MEDAL Mundus Vini (2024)

Les Jamelles Syrah is a generous, fruit-forward French Syrah with plenty of dark colour, ripe raspberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant, backed by violet, mint, spice and a lingering touch of liquorice. It is full and rounded on the palate, with velvety tannins and a long, silky finish. Made from 100% Syrah grown across four distinct Pays d'Oc terroirs in the Languedoc, it reflects the varietal-focused approach Catherine and Laurent Delaunay have pursued at Les Jamelles since 1995. A very approachable choice for anyone after a richly flavoured southern French red, especially alongside lamb tagine, grilled meats, charcuterie or a spread of Spanish tapas.

What the winery says:

The 2024 is 100% Syrah, sourced from the slopes of the Orb Valley, the foothills of Montagne d'Alaric, the clay soils of central Corbières and the foothills of the Montagne Noire. Most of the wine is made using the traditional southern French "la cocotte" method, where the pomace is submerged at the end of alcoholic fermentation for slow, gentle extraction of colour and tannin. A portion is matured in oak to add spice. The winery describes wild red and black fruits, violet, vanilla, cinnamon and mint, with a rich palate, silky finish and persistent liquorice note.
