Knappstein Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is Clare Valley Cabernet with plenty of classic regional character, balancing ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with dark chocolate, mint, tobacco leaf and savoury herbs. There is good structure here without the wine becoming heavy, with measured tannins and a fresh, composed finish. The fruit comes from Knappstein's estate vineyards in the northern Clare Valley, an area well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2022 has picked up serious recognition along the way. The 2022 growing season began with a wet spring, followed by favourable flowering and fruit set and cool conditions through December and January that allowed long, steady ripening. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Knappstein's estate vineyards at the northern end of the Clare Valley, where the vines average more than 35 years of age. The winery describes aromas of juicy blackcurrant, dark chocolate, mint and tobacco leaf, with chocolate, bay leaf, ripe blackberry and fresh thyme across an elegantly structured palate.
