Huia Tangle is Huia's lively take on a Marlborough white blend, bringing Pinot Gris, Viognier and Riesling together with just a tiny touch of Sauvignon Blanc. Dry and lightly textural, it layers pear, honeysuckle and melon with lemon curd, golden grapefruit and ripe nectarine, while cardamom and bright acidity keep everything fresh and energetic. Huia's organic approach and thoughtful use of wild fermentation give this aromatic white plenty of character. A smart choice for adventurous white wine drinkers, especially alongside seared scallops, roast chicken or miso-roasted eggplant.

What the winery says:

The 2024 blend is 63% Pinot Gris, 25% Viognier, 12% Riesling and 0.03% Sauvignon Blanc, with fruit sourced from established vines in Marlborough's Omaka and Waihopai Valleys. The grapes were handpicked, destemmed, gently pressed and cold settled. Pinot Gris was fermented in stainless steel with organic yeast, while Viognier and Riesling went into neutral puncheons and barriques for fermentation with a Sauvignon Blanc pied de cuve and wild yeasts. The finished wine is 13% alcohol, certified organic and suitable for vegans.

What the experts say:

Cameron Douglas MS, Rated Excellent & 93/100 (2024 Vintage)
"Knowing the varietal mix that made this wine it is easy to grab the scents of Sb then Riesling with a lick of spice from the PG. On the palate these ideas repeats adding in the floral apricot mix of Viognier and acidity from all 4 varieties used. Dry and satin smooth with a spicy balanced fruity core, refreshing and salivating finishing with the floral spice tones of Viognier. Well made and very tasty with best drinking from day of purchase through 2029."

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 5 Stars & 93/100 (2024 Vintage)
"Delightfully fruited and fragrant, the bouquet presents golden peach, poached pear, orange peel, and subtle spice aromas. It's succulent and fleshy in the mouth, offering a beautifully rounded mouthfeel, backed by bright acidity, finishing long and refreshing. A blend of Pinot Gris, Viognier, & Riesling. At its best: now to 2029."

Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, 92/100 (2024 Vintage)
"A crisp, pretty bouquet with lifted notes of quince, sweet basil, cinnamon and citrus highlighting soft aromas of cloudy apple juice. The elegant, light-weight palate opens with an amalgam of fruit before being cleansed by chamomile and jasmine tea flavours which persist right through to the finish. Dry and delightfully chewy on the palate, it has excellent acidity, giving it linearity and length. There is a lot going on, as savoury lees, white pepper and floral notes make guest appearances on the lingering finish."
