Huia Brut Sparkling Rose 2020
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml | $4.99 Delivery
Huia Brut Sparkling Rosé is a traditional-method Marlborough sparkling made entirely from organically grown Pinot Noir. Rose gold in colour, it combines bright red berry fruit with brioche, toasted hazelnut and a distinctive saline edge, delivering more depth and complexity than a simple fruit-led sparkling rosé. Two years on lees brings fine bubbles and savoury richness, while vibrant acidity and a dry finish keep the wine precise and refreshing. A polished choice for celebrations, long lunches or an aperitif, particularly alongside fresh seafood, charcuterie, creamy cheeses or saffron risotto.
What the winery says:
The organic Pinot Noir was sourced from vineyards in the lower Omaka Valley and Huia's home block in the Central Wairau. The fruit was hand picked and whole bunch pressed, then transferred to neutral oak barrels for 12 months before resting for a further six months in cuve. The wine was bottled for tirage and spent two years on lees before disgorgement. Rose gold in appearance, it shows fennel, cranberry jelly, oyster shell, elderflower and alpine strawberry, followed by brioche, pomegranate molasses, fresh raspberry, toasted hazelnut and orange zest. The finish is rich, dry and saline. The wine contains 12.5% alcohol, 5.9 g/L residual sugar and is vegan friendly.
What the experts say:
Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, 93/100 (2020 Vintage)
"Abel-clone pinot noir from a certified Bio-Gro organic vineyard in the Waihopai Valley of Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, this hits all the notes for this technically demanding style of pale, crisp and dry, tank-fermented rosé. A seriously refreshing, premium example and one of the most accomplished wines in Huia’s current range. Very pale pink. Subtle watermelon and crisp floral notes. Light, dry palate with light-weight flavours of blood orange and plum juice, finishing crisp and appetisingly saline. Moderately long and refreshing with a lovely line of acidity. It’s quietly complex and very well made—exactly in the style which is currently fashionable for rosé."
