Elephant Hill Syrah 2021

Elephant Hill Syrah is a polished Hawke's Bay Syrah with ripe plum, dark raspberry and cherry fruit, lifted violet notes, peppery spice and a savoury edge. Medium-bodied rather than heavy, it brings together fresh acidity, fine tannins and a smooth, silky texture, making it generous enough for red wine lovers while keeping plenty of elegance. Fruit from Elephant Hill's three Hawke's Bay vineyards gives the wine a broad regional expression, balancing juicy berry character with spice and structure. A smart match for roast lamb, grilled beef or a cool evening when a richly flavoured but composed red is called for.

What the winery says:

The 2021 Syrah was selected from Elephant Hill's three vineyards, combining soft, ripe berry fruit and delicate spice with a smooth texture, underlying structure, medium body and freshness. The hand-selected fruit was gently handled from fermentation through to bottling, spending 19 months on full lees in French oak barrel and tank before blending, followed by a further 11 months in tank on light lees.
