Earthkeepers Otiake Pinot Noir
Earthkeepers Otiake Pinot Noir is made by Grant Taylor, the winemaker behind Valli, from the Otiake River Vineyard in the Waitaki Valley, New Zealand's coolest wine growing region. The limestone hills and gravelly river soils here are markedly different from Central Otago just over the hill, giving the fruit a distinct character that Taylor works hard to preserve rather than smooth over. It's a wine built around a strong sense of place, letting the cool climate and rugged terrain of this small, special site speak through the finished wine rather than chasing a more generic Pinot Noir style.
What the winery says:
Expect vivid aromas of wild cherry, raspberry and violet layered with forest herbs and subtle earthy notes. The palate is bright and energetic, with juicy red fruit, fine tannins and a lively line of acidity carrying through to a finish lifted by savoury spice. It's a wine that leans on purity and tension rather than weight, with the vineyard's limestone influence giving it real length and a genuine sense of place.
