d'Arenberg d'Arry's Original Shiraz Grenache brings together equal parts Grenache and Shiraz in a characterful McLaren Vale red that balances generous fruit with savoury detail. The 2021 offers fragrant red and black berries, wild strawberry, dried cranberry and rhubarb, backed by dried herbs and warm baking spice. Medium-bodied rather than heavy, it has fine, velvety tannins, bright acidity and a long savoury finish. Named in honour of third-generation family member Francis "d'Arry" Osborn, this is a relaxed, food-friendly Australian red with plenty going on. Try it with grilled lamb, sausages or a slow-cooked beef dish.

What the winery says:

The 2021 is a 50% Grenache and 50% Shiraz blend from McLaren Vale. Small batches were gently crushed into five-tonne headed-down open fermenters and kept separate until final blending. The grapes were foot trodden two thirds of the way through fermentation, then basket pressed and transferred to a mix of new and used French oak barriques to complete fermentation. The barrel ferments were aged on lees, with no racking until final blending, and the wine matured in oak for 20-21 months. It was bottled without fining or filtration. The winery describes a dark, vibrant ruby wine with red and black berries, exotic spice, wild strawberry, dried cranberry, rhubarb, dried herbs and baking spice over fine tannins and fresh acidity.
