Concha y Toro Casillero del Diablo Carmenere 2024
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml | $4.99 Delivery
Concha y Toro Casillero del Diablo Carmenere is a generous, medium-bodied Chilean red built around ripe blackberry, plum and black cherry, with touches of spice, coffee and vanilla adding savoury depth. The 2024 comes from Chile's Central Valley and keeps things approachable with rounded tannins, fresh acidity and enough structure to stand comfortably alongside dinner. Casillero del Diablo has long made Carmenere one of the calling cards of its Reserva range, and this is an easy way into the variety's dark fruit and gently herbal character. Try it with slow-cooked lamb, grilled vegetables, bean dishes or a hearty midweek pasta.
What the winery says:
Casillero del Diablo describes its Reserva Carmenere as expressive and fruity, with berries and plum joined by hints of coffee and spice. It is medium-bodied, with natural acidity, polished tannins and a long finish. The wine comes from Chile's Central Valley, where the vineyards include alluvial, rocky and stony soils as well as hillside sites with granitic subsoil. The climate is Mediterranean with a marked influence from the Andes. The winery recommends serving it at 16-18°C and pairing it with game meats, roasted or grilled vegetables and bean dishes.
What the experts say:
Cameron Douglas MS, 89 Points and Recommended (2023)
"Dry on the plate with a fruity core from red berries and non-fruit flavours, some violets and plums then back to soil."
