Chateau Maucoil Chateauneuf Du Pape Blanc 2019
Chateau Maucoil Chateauneuf Du Pape Blanc is a characterful Southern Rhône white combining ripe pear, grapefruit and citrus with a distinctly mineral backbone. Grenache Blanc leads the blend, bringing breadth and generous fruit, while the wine retains enough freshness and definition to keep everything nicely poised. From Château Maucoil's vineyards in the north-west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this is a rewarding alternative for anyone who usually reaches for the appellation's reds. Rich enough for roast chicken or grilled fish, yet fresh enough for shellfish, it offers both substance and impressive drinkability.
What the winery says:
The blend is 90% Grenache Blanc, 8% Bourboulenc and 2% Clairette, grown on limestone soils and farmed organically. The fruit undergoes cold skin maceration and pressing before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. Maturation takes place for 12 months in used tonneau and barrique. The wine shows pear and citrus aromas, with stone fruit, white flowers and a clean, bright mineral character through the palate.
What the experts say:
Anna Lee C. Iijima, Wine Enthusiast, 93 Points (2019 Vintage)
“It's a refreshing, transparent style of Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc that's particularly rewarding young, but likely to hold well through 2027.”
