Castaño Ecológico Macabeo is a fresh, vibrant Spanish white from the family-owned Bodegas Castaño winery in Yecla, southeastern Spain. Made entirely from organically grown Macabeo grapes, the 2023 vintage offers inviting aromas of crisp green apple, ripe pear and quince, followed by juicy stone fruit flavours and a refreshing citrus-like acidity. Light, lively and beautifully balanced, the palate has a lovely sense of fruit richness without feeling heavy, finishing clean and dry. The 2023 Ecológico Macabeo is produced from 100% certified organic Macabeo grapes grown on 20-year-old vines in Yecla, Murcia. The vineyards sit approximately 500 metres above sea level on north-facing slopes with sandy limestone soils, helping preserve freshness and aromatic intensity in the region's warm Mediterranean climate. Despite challenging heatwaves and water stress during the growing season, timely rainfall helped deliver excellent fruit quality. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 15°C over 14 to 15 days to retain the grape's delicate fruit character. Pale lemon in colour, the finished wine shows fragrant apple, pear and quince aromas, juicy stone fruit flavours and crisp, refreshing acidity. Certified organic and vegan friendly.
