Caravan Petite Sirah is a generous, full-bodied South Eastern Australian red from winemaker John Quarisa, built around Petite Sirah, also known as Durif. Expect deep blackcurrant, plum and ripe dark berry fruit, backed by vanilla, toast and warming spice from oak. It pours an intense red with purple hues and brings plenty of density, while the palate stays smooth and lively with a long, fruit-rich finish. This is an easy pick for drinkers who enjoy bold Australian reds with plenty of flavour and structure. Put it beside a beef casserole, barbecued steak or slow-cooked red meat.
What the winery says:
Quarisa describes this South Eastern Australian Petite Sirah as full-bodied, generous and lively, with blackcurrant and plum balanced by spicy, toasted oak. Production notes for the 2022 wine state that the grapes were harvested at 13.5 to 14.0 Baume and fermented in a mixture of vessels to build colour and flavour. Oak was used during fermentation for a portion of the wine, with further oak treatment after fermentation before final blending. The resulting style is dense and ripe, with youthful berry fruit, integrated vanillin oak and a long, smooth finish.
What the experts say:
Cuisine, 4 Stars (2022)
“Bold yet tangy with plenty of structure and a fresh lift on the finish.”
