Bogle Cabernet Sauvignon is the reliable, full-throttle red from a family winery that's been working California's Sacramento Delta for half a century. The 2023 spent a full year in American oak, and it shows: black cherry, mint and juniper up front, then a fleshy, generous mid-palate loaded with red cassis and a whisper of red licorice. The tannins have real texture but stay well-mannered, so the wine feels rich rather than tough, and the finish hangs around for a good while. It's built with steak in mind - rib-eye and blue cheese butter wouldn't go amiss - and it's the sort of Cabernet that over-delivers without asking you to think too hard about it.

What the winery says:

Bogle's Cabernet Sauvignon spends 12 months in one-year-old American oak barrels. It opens with lifted aromatics of black cherry, mint bush, juniper berry and baking spice, moving into vibrant red fruit and a fleshy, generous mid-palate. The tannins are textured but refined, giving gentle grip rather than harshness, while red cassis and red licorice add further depth. The colour is a deep garnet, built in a traditional, fruit-forward style with the structure to age. Bogle suggests pairing it with rib-eye steak, roasted eggplant or a dark chocolate dessert.
