Bleasdale Floodgate Shiraz is a generous Langhorne Creek Shiraz built around dark berry fruit, fresh plum, blackberry and a savoury thread of liquorice and peppery spice. Medium to full bodied, it has plenty of flavour without becoming heavy, with vibrant fruit and a supple, approachable feel. Bleasdale has deep roots in this South Australian region, where the Potts family helped develop the floodgate irrigation system that became part of local viticulture. This is an easy choice for anyone after characterful Australian Shiraz with a little freshness in its stride. Pour it alongside grilled lamb, sausages or a relaxed backyard barbecue.

What the winery says:

The 2022 Floodgate Shiraz was sourced from Bleasdale's estate vineyard and specialist growers in Langhorne Creek. The fruit was destemmed into open fermenters with approximately 15% left as whole berries, followed by a short soak and fermentation with regular pump overs. After 9 to 12 days on skins, the wine was pressed and transferred to oak for malolactic fermentation. It then matured for 12 months in French oak puncheons and hogsheads, including 10% new oak. The finished wine shows lifted dark berry and spice aromas with blackberry, fresh plum, liquorice and pepper characters through the palate.

What the experts say:

Ken Gargett, WinePilot, 93 Points (2022)
"If you want a wine which shows just how delicious and what good value Langhorne Creek Shiraz can be, look no further. This is a bright crimson colour. We have notes of florals and a sweet core of an array of red fruits. This is delicious, focused and balanced, and it exhibits excellent length. Drink now and over the next six years, during which time there is room for it to improve even further. Love it."
