92/100 Campbell Mattinson (2022)

Bleasdale Broad-Side Shiraz Cabernet Malbec brings together the dark-fruited generosity of Shiraz, Cabernet structure and a supporting splash of Malbec in a classic Langhorne Creek blend. The 2022 shows plum, blackcurrant and boysenberry fruit with chocolate, spice and savoury detail, finishing with juicy persistence and smooth, velvety tannins. The name comes from Lloyd Stanley "Sticky" Potts, whose love of motorcycle racing inspired the speedway image on the label. Approachable but far from simple, this is an easy choice for grilled lamb, smoky barbecue fare or a relaxed dinner with friends.

What the winery says:

Broad-Side combines Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon with Malbec, sourced from Langhorne Creek in South Australia. The style centres on plum, blackcurrant, chocolate and boysenberry spice, with a juicy palate and smooth tannins. For the 2022 vintage, the wine spent nine months in French oak, with only a small proportion of new oak, helping keep the fruit and savoury character firmly in focus. The label celebrates Sticky Potts practising the motorcycle broad-side turns that gave the wine its name.
