92/100 Halliday (2023)

Bleasdale Bremerview Shiraz brings Langhorne Creek's generous side into a medium bodied, silky style, with dark berries, juicy plum and blackberry joined by clove, pepper and lifted spice. Fine tannins keep everything flowing rather than heavy, making this a very easy red to put on the table. Bleasdale has been part of Langhorne Creek since Frank Potts established the winery in 1850, and the Bremerview vineyard benefits from the region's distinctive river-influenced growing conditions. A smart pick for Shiraz drinkers who favour fruit, spice and freshness, especially alongside barbecue meats.

What the winery says:

The 2023 is Shiraz sourced from Bleasdale's estate vineyard and specialist Langhorne Creek growers. Fruit was destemmed to open fermenters with around 15% whole berries, then spent 9 to 12 days on skins before pressing. After malolactic fermentation, the separate blocks were matured for 12 months before blending, using 5% new and seasoned French oak puncheons. Bleasdale describes the wine as medium bodied, with lifted spice and dark berry aromas, a long silky palate, fine tannins and flavours of plum, blackberry, clove and pepper. The winery suggests drinking it through 2031.

What the experts say:

Halliday Wine Companion, 92 Points (2023)
"All styles, all price points – Bleasdale does it all so well. This is tip-top with its upfront fruit flavours, spiced plums and black cherries, a touch of kirsch, too. It's spicy, very juicy and tangy, super vibrant with just enough fruit tannins to add more shape to its barely medium-bodied palate. Nice one."
