Veneto sits in northeast Italy and is best known internationally for Prosecco, though the region produces a genuinely wide range of styles beyond its sparkling wine. Glera is the grape behind Prosecco's fresh, fruity character, made using the tank method that locks in primary aromas rather than developing the toastier notes typical of traditional-method sparkling wine. Away from Prosecco, Veneto is also home to Bardolino, whose pale, delicate Chiaretto rose offers a lighter alternative to the region's fuller reds, along with Valpolicella and its richer, partially dried-grape Amarone style.
