Paisley Wines Boombox Barossa Shiraz 2023

Paisley Wines Boombox Barossa Shiraz comes from a small high-altitude vineyard above Angaston, planted with over 21-year-old Shiraz vines that sit right on the line between the Barossa and Eden Valleys. It's inky dark in the glass, with plush notes of chocolate, plum, cocoa and blackberry running through to a savoury edge of coffee bean and liquorice, all held together by supple tannins and a thread of fresh acidity that keeps it from feeling heavy. Paisley Wines was founded in 2016 by Derek Fitzgerald and Kirsten Harvey, whose shared love of music runs through the whole range - this one's named after mixtapes, not speakers. Drink it now or give it a couple of years to fill out further.

Paisley's Estate Vineyard sits at around 440 metres above Angaston, on the boundary between the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley, where the Shiraz vines are now more than 21 years old. The Boombox shows deep colour with a lifted nose of raspberry fruit, floral and choc-mint notes, moving into a medium-to-full-bodied palate of juicy red fruit, blackcurrant and savoury, earthy notes, with cedary oak adding structure. Soft, silky tannins run through the mid-palate, and the finish carries berry fruit and fine oak. It's built to drink well young but should hold for the medium term.

“Inky dark maroon in colour, the nose reveals aromas of chocolate, plums, cocoa powder, licorice, blackberries and coffee beans. There is a fine line of refreshing acidity through to supple tannins on this wine of medium length. Good now, it should be even better in two to three years, and then drink well for the following eight to ten. Good value”
