Greywacke Chardonnay 2023
Case Buys Only | 12 x 750ml
Greywacke Chardonnay is a powerful, savoury expression of Marlborough Chardonnay, layered with lemon curd, stone fruit and bright citrus beneath praline, brioche and flinty mineral notes. The palate is concentrated and richly textured, but zesty acidity gives the wine plenty of energy and keeps its creamy oak neatly in line. Made primarily from low-yielding Mendoza-clone fruit, it carries the depth to reward time in the cellar while remaining thoroughly appealing now. A strong choice for roast chicken, grilled fish, creamy seafood or mushroom dishes that can meet it halfway.
What the winery says:
The fruit comes primarily from Mendoza and clone 95 Chardonnay grown on stony alluvial soils near Renwick, with additional parcels from gravelly clay-loam sites in the Omaka Valley. The grapes are hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before natural fermentation in French oak barriques, including a small proportion of new oak. Occasional lees stirring, full malolactic fermentation and 11 months in barrel build richness and savoury depth. Citrus, crème anglaise and praline lead into lemon curd, brioche, stone fruit and tarragon, finishing concentrated, flinty and fresh.
