Giesen Pure Light Pinot Gris
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml
Giesen Pure Light Pinot Gris proves lower alcohol doesn't have to mean less flavour. Giesen builds it as a full-strength Pinot Gris first, blending fruit from Hawke's Bay, Marlborough and Waipara for aromatic lift, richness and ripe stone fruit, then gently removes some of the alcohol using spinning cone technology before blending it back to preserve the aromatics. What lands in the glass at 6.11% ABV is properly varietal Pinot Gris - lifted florals, juicy pear and ripe stone fruit, silky in texture, with a gentle sweetness that freshness keeps in check and a soft, smooth finish. It's an easy pour when you'd rather not do the maths on how many glasses you've had.
What the winery says:
Pure Light Pinot Gris blends fruit from three regions - Marlborough for aromatic lift, Waipara for richness and structure, and Hawke's Bay for ripe stone fruit and a rounded palate. The base wine is made in full strength before a portion is gently de-alcoholised using spinning cone technology, a process that strips out alcohol while preserving the wine's natural aromatics, then reintegrated with the full-strength wine to restore balance and mouthfeel. The result sits at 6.11% ABV, pH 3.54, TA 5.7g/L and residual sugar of 15g/L, and Giesen suggests pairing it with salmon sashimi, ceviche or a fresh summer salad.
