Bogle Chardonnay 2024

Bogle Chardonnay is the wine that introduced a generation of New Zealanders to big, buttery Californian whites, and it hasn't dialled back the charm one bit. Half the blend ferments in stainless steel for brightness, the rest in new American oak, before nine months ageing on lees brings it all together. Expect ripe green apple and pear layered with citrus zest, rounding out into vanilla, clove and a gentle toasty warmth from the oak. Grown on the Bogle family's Clarksburg vineyards - now farmed by a sixth generation - it's a wine built for richness rather than restraint. Pour it generously alongside something rich and creamy, and let it do the heavy lifting.

The blend splits evenly between stainless steel and new American oak barrels, spending nine months ageing on the lees before the two components come together. The aim is a wine that layers bright, fruit-driven character - green apple, pear and a touch of pineapple - with a rounder, spice-laced mid-palate and a lingering toasty, creamy finish. Bogle recommends it with grilled fish, roast chicken, fresh green salads or a mild, soft cheese.
