Barton & Guestier Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml
Barton & Guestier Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon brings a generous, easy-drinking take on Cabernet from the South of France. Blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry lead the way, joined by a little toast, spice and liquorice. The palate is smooth and velvety, with fresh acidity keeping the ripe fruit lively and the tannins comfortably polished. Made by a French wine house dating back to 1725, this is a dependable crowd-pleaser that delivers classic Cabernet flavour without demanding a decanter or special occasion. Pour it with grilled steak, tomato-rich pasta, spicy sausages or a well-stocked cheeseboard.
What the winery says:
The 2023 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the South of France, grown across clay, limestone and gravel soils. Mediterranean conditions combine warm days with cooler nights. The grapes were destemmed and crushed, then fermented in vats at around 27°C with twice-daily cap work. Micro-oxygenation took place before malolactic fermentation, which was also completed in vat. The winery describes concentrated blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry aromas, with toasty spice, smooth tannins, fresh acidity and a long blackberry and liquorice finish. The wine is suitable for vegans and is best served at 16-18°C.
What the experts say:
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 90 Points and 4.5 Stars (2023)
“Attractively fruited and varietally expressive, showing dark plum, dried herb, cured meat, and fennel notes, leading to a finely textured palate that's succulent and supple. Well-structured with grainy tannins, finishing firm and dry.”
Cameron Douglas MS, camdouglasms.com, 89 Points and Recommended (2023)
“Varietal, fruity, balanced and well made with a core of smooth textured tannins and red berry fruits. Blackberry and plums, vanilla and baking spice highlights, some earthy brown soils and stone moments then a violet countryside quality. Simple, dry, finely textured, balanced and ready to drink from day of purchase through 2027.”
