Tantalus Estate
Tantalus Estate was founded in 2013 by Bruce and Donna Aitken, together with their son Campbell and daughter-in-law Carrie, who spent a decade revitalising an existing Onetangi Valley vineyard on Waiheke Island first planted in 1998. The family built a winery, restaurant and craft brewery on the 8.3 hectare site, with an award-winning fit-out by architect Nat Cheshire that helped the estate quickly become one of the island's best-known destinations for visitors and wine lovers alike.
While the Waiheke fruit anchors the range, with a Syrah, a Syrah Viognier and a series of Merlot-based Cabernet blends, Tantalus also draws Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough and crafts a traditional method sparkling wine from Hawke's Bay fruit, alongside a Waiheke Pinot Gris and Chardonnay that round out the estate range.
