Sebastiani
Sebastiani was founded in 1904 by Samuele Sebastiani, an Italian stonemason who had emigrated from Tuscany in 1895 and quarried the Sonoma hills for cobblestones before turning his full attention to wine. He began working the old Franciscan vineyard, focusing on Zinfandel, which he delivered by horse-drawn wagon to workers at the local quarry, steadily building a loyal following long before California wine had any real international reputation to speak of.
During Prohibition, Sebastiani was one of the few wineries in the country permitted to keep operating, producing sacramental wine while so many of its neighbours fell silent for over a decade. That early resilience shaped a range still built around bold, generous reds and whites today, from a rich, blackcurrant-driven Cabernet Sauvignon to a rounded, approachable Chardonnay.
