Te Whare Ra SV Pinot Noir 2019

Te Whare Ra SV Pinot Noir is a true single-vineyard wine, drawn entirely from the best parcels across eight different Pinot Noir clones on Te Whare Ra's own home block in Renwick. It shows a perfumed lift of ripe raspberry and florals, with mocha, violets, spice and savoury undertones running underneath. The palate is silky and fine-tannined, carrying ripe strawberry and dark plum through to a long, well-integrated oak finish. Where the winery's blended Pinot Noir pulls fruit from three vineyards, this is the pure expression of their own site, made in tiny volumes and built to reward some time in the cellar.

What the winery says: This SV5182 Pinot Noir is a special selection from the best parcels across the eight different Pinot Noir clones on Te Whare Ra's home vineyard, made entirely separately from their three-vineyard blend. It's their fifth release under the SV5182 label, made in a production of only 70 cases. The winery says this release showcases the best expression of their own site and the quality of the 2019 Marlborough Pinot Noir vintage.

The bouquet is enticing and captivating, showing sweet berry, warm spice and delicate floral aromas with a hint of dried shiitake. The concentrated palate delivers outstanding weight and plush texture, wonderfully complemented by succulent fruit flavours and savoury nuances. The 2019 Pinot Noir Single Vineyard 5182 is the current vintage, thanks to the winery holding back its reds to be ready to drink upon release. It has shaken off it's primary fruit and is heading into something a little more broody, complex and savory with a sense of mellow richness. The 2019 is lightly spiced and savory.
