Prunotto Occhetti Nebbiolo d’Alba captures Piedmont’s great red grape in a more open and approachable mood. Raspberry, red cherry, violets and rose petals are joined by liquorice and subtle earthy spice, with bright acidity and finely shaped tannins keeping the palate elegant rather than heavy. Prunotto has produced Occhetti since the 1970s, drawing on sandy, gravelly soils that help soften Nebbiolo’s naturally firm structure. Now part of the historic Antinori family, the estate offers a very smart route into serious Nebbiolo without all the waiting around usually involved.

Ruby red with garnet hues, Occhetti combines floral and fruit aromas with rich notes of violets and roses. The palate is delicate and elegant, supported by refined, generous tannins that clearly express the character of Nebbiolo. The vineyard soils combine superficial sand with layers of gravel, clay and limestone, helping give the wine its elegance and softer structure.
