Masseria Altemura 'Apulo' Primitivo is a rich, fruit-forward red from Salento in southern Italy, offering the warmth and generosity Primitivo is known for without losing its freshness. Plum, black cherry and ripe red fruit are layered with vanilla, cinnamon and savoury spice, while silky texture and grainy tannins give the wine plenty of shape. Full-bodied and immediately appealing, it is an easy choice for drinkers who enjoy bold, smooth Italian reds. Pair it with roast or grilled meats, hearty pasta dishes, pizza or mature cheeses.

What the winery says:

Deep ruby red with vivid purple highlights, the wine shows intense aromas of red fruit, plum and black cherry jam, accompanied by vanilla and cinnamon. The palate is soft and enveloping, with concentrated flavour, satisfying acidity and a persistent finish. Made from Primitivo grown in Salento, Puglia, the must fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature for approximately one week, followed by seven days of maceration on skins to extract colour, aroma and tannin. The wine then matured for around three months in stainless steel before further ageing in bottle.

What the experts say:

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, 93/100 & 5 Stars (2024 Vintage)
"Richly fruited and enticing, the bouquet showcases dark-fruit intensity, cake spice, game, and roasted-nut aromas. The palate is equally appealing, with a plump mouthfeel, a silky texture, and grainy tannins, making it delectably satisfying and long-lasting."
