Portuguese Wine

Portugal offers some of the best value in the wine world, split between two very different specialties. Port, the country's most famous export, is a fortified wine built for sipping after dinner, ranging from youthful Ruby styles through to complex, barrel-aged Tawny expressions. Away from fortified wine, Vinho Verde brings something completely different, a light, slightly spritzy white built for early, easy drinking. Between these extremes sits a growing range of serious still reds and whites, particularly from the Douro Valley, where many of the same grapes used for Port are increasingly bottled unfortified.
