The Edge Martinborough Pinot Noir is light ruby in the glass, with savoury notes of freshly turned earth and spice typical of a cooler vintage, lifted by a perfume of dried herbs and red berries. Red cherry and cranberry sit at the heart of the fruit profile, while the palate turns soft and juicy, with silky, immediately appealing tannins. Grown on Martinborough's famous alluvial gravel terraces, this is Escarpment's entry point into their winemaking style, designed to be enjoyed young rather than cellared. Serve lightly chilled around 16°C, and pour it alongside a barbecue, red meat dish or rich pasta.

What the winery says: Grown on Martinborough's alluvial gravel terraces in a cooler growing season, the 100% Pinot Noir fruit was gently destemmed into open-top fermenters and fermented with indigenous yeast. It spent an average of 20 days on skins before pressing to a mix of stainless steel tank and seasoned French barriques for eight months' maturation, then was bottled young to retain its freshness.
