Main Divide Chardonnay brings together ripe citrus and stone-fruit richness with the freshness and savoury detail that make North Canterbury Chardonnay so appealing. Lemon zest, roasted pineapple and melon lead into brioche, hazelnut and gentle wood spice, while a discreet creamy texture is sharpened by bright acidity and a long, racy finish. Made by the Donaldson family of Pegasus Bay from South Island-grown fruit, it offers plenty of character without becoming heavy. A smart match for roast chicken, pan-fried fish or creamy mushroom pasta, and equally convincing when the occasion simply calls for a generously flavoured glass of Chardonnay.

What the winery says:

The Chardonnay fruit was picked in stages from late March through April, gently pressed, then transferred as unclarified juice into large French oak puncheons. Primary fermentation occurred naturally with wild yeasts, followed by maturation on the wine's yeast lees. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation began in late spring and was stopped once the desired balance had been reached. The finished wine is dry and 13.5% alcohol, combining pale-gold colour, rich fruit and subtle creaminess with lively acidity, structured texture and a refreshing finish. The winery suggests an ageing potential of four to five years.
