Bohemian The Poet Pinot Gris is made by Julz Brogden of Collaboration Wines, one of the winemakers working within the Bohemian project, a Dhall and Nash label built around New Zealand winemakers each given room to make a wine in their own style. Grown on volcanic soil over limestone in Hawke's Bay, this Pinot Gris leans into texture rather than sweetness, with a firm, tight and linear structure that sets it apart from the fuller, off dry style many drinkers associate with the variety. Its pale gold colour with a hint of green hints at the fresh, green edged aromatics that carry through from nose to palate.

What the winery says:
Fresh green notes lead the nose, followed by red apple skin, honeydew melon, lychee and ginger. The palate is dry throughout, with textured red apple and honeycomb flavours taking centre stage over a chalky, saline backbone drawn from the vineyard's volcanic and limestone soils. Five months on lees adds further texture without softening the wine's acid line, and it finishes dry and lightly spiced rather than fruity or sweet.

Bright, medium yellow-gold, even colour throughout. The nose is full, with ripe pear, quince, honeysuckle and beeswax aromas. Medium-full bodied, dry to taste, aromas of quince and pear interweave with honeysuckle, beeswax, and jasmine tea. The mouthfeel is oily and almost waxy, flowing with fresh and balanced acidity and subtle spice to a dry finish. This is an engaging, dry Pinot Gris with a savoury edge that plays on texture
