Huia Sauvignon Blanc is an organically grown Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with generous fruit, mineral detail and a more layered texture than a sharply herbaceous style. Cape gooseberry, citrus and crisp apple are joined by floral notes, gentle nuttiness and a stony edge, while fresh acidity keeps the palate bright and composed. A small neutral oak-fermented portion adds depth without introducing obvious oak flavour. Complex but still immediately refreshing, it is a smart match for fresh oysters, grilled prawns, goat's cheese or lemon and herb roast chicken.

What the winery says:

The fruit was sourced predominantly from the Lower Wairau and Waihopai valleys, where poor early flowering and drought-like summer conditions produced loose bunches, smaller yields and concentrated fruit. Machine and hand harvested grapes were gently pressed and cold settled before a long, slow fermentation using pied de cuve in stainless steel, with a small portion fermented in neutral oak puncheons. Organic yeast was used to complete fermentation. Bright lemon in colour, the wine shows Cape gooseberry, passionflower, lemon curd, croissant and river stone, followed by Granny Smith apple, grapefruit zest, grilled lime, yellow flowers, fresh cashew and a long, textured finish.

What the experts say:

Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review, 94/100 (2024 Vintage)
"A hint of flinty minerality gives way to lime leaf and floral tones. Impressively weighty fruit on the palate is expertly hemmed by chalky phenolics."

Cameron Douglas MS, 94/100, Excellent (2024 Vintage)
"A lovely example with a core of ripeness and freshness, aromas and flavours of pear and white peach, citrus peel and gooseberry."
