Grasshopper Rock Pinot Noir 2022
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml
Grasshopper Rock Pinot Noir comes from the Earnscleugh Vineyard, one of Central Otago's premier sites. Perfumed with violets, blackberries and strawberry, with hints of spice, chocolate and dried herb, it opens full and silky, layering dark plum and dark cherry over forest-floor and floral notes. Concentrated and complex, with good minerality and ample fine-grained tannins carrying through to a persistent finish.
What the winery says:
2022 was one of the most enjoyable harvests in years - no weather pressure, and perfectly clean, ripe fruit from a vintage slightly warmer than average. Fruit (clones 5, 777, 114, 115, Abel and 667) was picked April 5-11, destemmed to tank and fermented with a mix of selected and wild yeast, spending around 20 days on skins before 10 months' maturation in French oak barriques, 28% new.
What the experts say:
Erin Larkin, RobertParker.com, 94/100 (2022 Vintage)
"[The 2022 Earnscleugh Vineyard Pinot Noir] leads with cocoa powder and roasted game nuances, pink peppercorns, red apple skins and dried herbs... finely milled, structuring and chewy, with strands of saline acidity woven into the picture. A beautiful wine now, but it will be an even better wine in the years to come."
