Mount Edward
Mount Edward was founded in 1997 by Alan Brady, one of the true pioneers of Central Otago winemaking in New Zealand, who had already established Gibbston Valley Wines in 1981 and produced the region's first commercial Pinot Noir there in 1987. In 2004 winemaker Duncan Forsyth and proprietor John Buchanan purchased the estate from Brady and built it into a five-vineyard property spanning Gibbston, Lowburn, Bannockburn and Pisa, with every site and the winery itself certified organic.
The estate's more affordable TED range offers an easy-drinking entry point into that same organic fruit, while the Mount Edward label itself is built around the region's calling card, a fine, perfumed Pinot Noir, alongside a textured Pinot Gris, a pale Rosé and a mineral, cool-climate Chardonnay, each reflecting the distinctive schist and clay soils of the surrounding vineyards.
