Monmousseau
Monmousseau was founded in 1886 in the heart of the Loire Valley, where founder Alcide Monmousseau established a wine trading house above an extensive network of tunnels quarried into the region's soft tuffeau limestone. His son Justin-Marcel Monmousseau later expanded the underground cellars and built the house's reputation for traditional-method sparkling wine, ageing each cuvée slowly in the cool, constant temperatures the tunnels provide, a method still used for the house's wines today.
The Brut Étoile blends Chenin Blanc with Chardonnay, spending some eighteen months resting on its lees before release, which builds the fine, persistent bubbles and the notes of almond and orchard fruit the style is known for. Monmousseau has been part of the Ackerman group since 2018, continuing to produce these wines from the same central French vineyards and cellars the house has worked for well over a century.
