McGuigan Private Bin Merlot is a smooth, approachable red designed for easy drinking rather than long cellaring. It pours a bright red and opens with complex red berry and raspberry jam aromas lifted by subtle cinnamon and vanilla. The palate layers black fruit, raspberry, cherry and ripe plum over caramel and vanilla oak, finishing smooth rather than tannic, true to Merlot's naturally softer character. It's ready to drink now, though it will hold for up to two years in the cellar. Pour it alongside tomato based pasta, sausages or other everyday weeknight fare.
