Babich Hawke's Bay Syrah 2024
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml
Babich Hawke's Bay Syrah brings ripe raspberry, plum and dark cherry together with black pepper, cedar, vanilla and a savoury herbal edge. It is juicy and medium weighted rather than hulking, with fine tannins and enough freshness to keep the fruit lively. The grapes come from Babich's estate vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle, two well-known Hawke's Bay red-wine sub-regions. A smart pick for drinkers who like Syrah generous but not heavy, it will sit happily beside balsamic-marinated steak, lamb kebabs or a loaded antipasto platter.
What the winery says:
Babich sources this Syrah from estate-owned vineyards in Hawke's Bay's Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle. Clones MS, 470 and Limmer were harvested on 13 April, passed through open rollers to retain uncrushed berries, then fermented in stainless steel with Lachancea thermotolerans followed by Saccharomyces cerevisiae and gentle cap management. Malolactic fermentation followed. The winery notes raspberry and vanilla over cedar, with dark fruit, fleshy plum, oregano and dried herbs, finishing with spice, integrated oak and fine tannins.
