Gisborne sits on the East Coast of the North Island, and its reputation as one of New Zealand's earliest and most consistent Chardonnay regions has held steady for decades, helped by a warm climate and rich, fertile soils that give the variety real generosity of fruit. The region was among the first in the country to see commercial success with the grape, and it remains a reliable source of approachable, well-priced Chardonnay today. Pinot Gris and rose round out the range, taking advantage of the same warmth. For Chardonnay specifically, Gisborne Chardonnay narrows things down further, and New Zealand Wine covers every region we carry.
