De Martino Estate
De Martino was founded in 1934 by Pietro De Martino, an immigrant from Italy's Abruzzo region who settled at Isla de Maipo two years later after doctors advised him to leave the city for health reasons. The winery remains family-run today, now in its fourth generation, and has practised sustainable, traditional winemaking throughout its history, producing wines from vineyards across Chile that the family sees as a true reflection of its sustainable vineyard sites.
In 1996, De Martino became the first winery to label and export a Carmenère from Chile, helping establish the variety's identity as the country's signature red wine grape after decades of it being mistaken for Merlot in local vineyards. The family has also pioneered work in the Itata Valley, farming century-old vines and reviving traditional winemaking techniques that had fallen out of use elsewhere in the country.
