Croix de Marsan is produced by Vignobles Gonfrier, a family wine business founded in 1962 by Paul Gonfrier after he emigrated from Algeria and began with three hectares of vines. Now run by a third generation of the family, the company has grown into one of the region's more substantial merchant houses, farming and sourcing fruit across some 900 hectares in the Cadillac-Côtes de Bordeaux and Entre-deux-Mers areas southeast of Bordeaux, in southwest France.

The Croix de Marsan name refers to Château de Marsan, Vignobles Gonfrier's flagship property, and the brand has operated since 1997 as a vinifying merchant, buying fruit from around forty partner growers to its own specifications before vinifying and ageing the wine at its Chais de Rions facility. The grapes are grown on HVE3-certified, sustainably farmed vineyards on the clayey-limestone slopes and gravel plateau of Entre-deux-Mers, blended predominantly from Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
