Calvert
Calvert Vineyard is a single-vineyard, family-owned label from Bannockburn, in Central Otago, on New Zealand's South Island. Owen Calvert bought the land on Felton Road in 1989, recognising its potential for Pinot Noir, and the first vines went in a decade later, in 1999. The vineyard became Biogro certified organic by 2006 and has since built a reputation as one of the district's most respected sites for the variety.
Grapes from Calvert Vineyard have long been sought by some of Central Otago's best-known winemakers, who have used the fruit in wines released under their own labels. Since 2018 the Calvert family has also produced its own small-batch Pinot Noir from the site, grown on loess and silt soils over glacial gravel that encourage slow ripening. The result is organic, single-vineyard Pinot Noir made where the fruit is grown.
