Frankland Estate Shiraz 2022
Case Buys Only | 6 x 750ml
Frankland Estate Shiraz is a vibrant, medium-bodied red from the cool, remote Frankland River region of Western Australia. Raspberry and red plum fruit meet black pepper, star anise and savoury spice, framed by distinctive ironstone-like tannins and carefully restrained French oak. Made from certified organic estate vineyards, it favours perfume, freshness and fine structure over sheer weight, while still offering enough depth for lovers of classic Australian Shiraz. Its balance and gentle chew make it an excellent match for roast lamb, braised beef cheeks, grilled steak or smoky eggplant dishes.
What the winery says:
The wine is composed of 95% Shiraz, with small additions of Touriga Nacional, Malbec, Marsanne and Viognier. Fruit was sourced from eight parcels across the family's certified organic estate vineyards, including Houghton's clone and clones 470 and 174. Five percent of the Shiraz underwent whole-bunch fermentation. Twelve separate parcels were fermented slowly in open tanks at temperatures below 28°C, with gentle plunging and some co-fermentation with Marsanne and Viognier. Extended maceration followed fermentation to build flavour and texture, before the wine matured for 14 months in 500-litre French oak puncheons of varying ages. It shows raspberry and bright red fruit, star anise, black pepper and firm, gravelly tannins.
